The Professional Development School partnership between Harris-Stowe State College (HSSC) and Shepard Accelerated Elementary School focuses on improving the preparation of future teachers from HSSC and the quality of children's education at Shepard School.

Harris-Stowe State College and Shepard School collaborate in the following mutually beneficial ways:

bullet

Field experience for HSSC pre-service teachers during student teaching. The future teachers collaborate with cooperating teachers and learn to teach in a real-life setting. 

bullet

Clinical experience for HSSC pre-service teachers where they observe, assist and collaborate with cooperating Shepard teachers in classroom. 

bullet

College pre-service teachers and the school in-service teachers engage in collaborative professional development activities such as hands-on technology workshops at HSSC and on-site workshops at Shepard school.

bullet

Children benefit from continuous improvements in the quality of instruction.

bullet

Harris-Stowe State College Teacher Education faculty collaborate with Shepard School Administrators and teachers in grant writing.
