| the belief that all students can learn at high levels and can
achieve mastery of basic grade level and subject area skills regardless of
their previous academic performance, family background, socioeconomic status,
race and/or gender | |
| the purpose of the Shepard Accelerated School to educate all students to high level of academic performance while fostering positive growth in social and emotional behavior and attitude. |
We accept the responsibility to teach all students, so that they can attain
their maximum educational potential.
We realize our vision to meet our goals and carry out our mission and purpose
through the use of the following strategies:
| We have instituted into our school fabric seven of the Coalition
Essentials; personalized learning, less is more; teaching for intellectual
development; teacher generalist; student worker, teacher coach; demonstrated
learning and non-anxious expectations. These principles are at the heart of our
move toward total constructivist practices in teaching. | |
| We whole heartily accept, espouse and celebrate the three Accelerated
School principles, unity of purpose, building on strengths, and empowerment
with responsibility. | |
| We enthusiastically participate in the governance our school through the
weekly Grade Team meetings, the monthly Cadre Steering Committee and staff
meetings. | |
| We are a professional Development School in partnership with Harris-Stowe State College and belong to Professional Development School Collaborative; we provide support for the Southwestern Bell Teaching Scholars Program; and participate with the Education Renewal Consortium. We espouse the (Rod Edmonds) Effective School Correlates, the (Henry Levin) Accelerated School Principles, the (Ted Sizer) Nine Principles of the Coalition of Essential Schools and the John Goodlad Institute for Educational Renewal postulates. |
